A message from The City of Penticton:

Free two-hour on-street parking for downtown area

December 8, 2022

City Council has unanimously approved a pause for paid on-street parking.

“After hearing from downtown businesses and residents, Council decided that this was the right time to take a pause and review the paid parking program,” says Mayor Julius Bloomfield. “The decision to allow free on-street parking allows us to see how the program can be improved. It also provides some help to downtown businesses and residents during a period of economic struggle. Hopefully, this will encourage more people to come downtown.”

Over the next few days, all downtown parking meters will be ‘hooded’ and the parking machines will have laminated signs attached.

Parking will be limited to two-hours and Bylaw Services will continue to apply all other traffic bylaws. The City’s hourly pay lots will remain at $2 an hour.

The free parking program is scheduled to run until March 31, while Council reviews the parking policy as part of the 2023 budget process.
