Rock the Sun features some of the best live music the West has to offer! Bring a blanket or chair down to Gyro Park in the downtown core of Penticton with performances starting at 7:00pm. This year Rock the Sun also features a special performance during the Royal LePage Locations West Realty Street Dance on July 21, 2017 in the 400 block of Main Street.

Timothy Hurley & The Vultures (Reggae Tribute)
July 14

Born in the heart of a dormant volcano, Timothy Hurley grew up in a musical household in Rossland, BC. His music is a fusion of soul, roots and, reggae and is inspired both by his Caribbean and British roots, and musical influences like Neil Young, the Beatles and Bob Marley. “Crafty, catchy, soulful and definitely road trip ready,” Tariq Hussain, member of Vancouver band Brasstronaut, says of Hurley’s new album,-June-released September 2016.  Timothy Hurley & the Vultures (Reggae Tribute), sets the dial to REGGAE, playing the songs of Bob Marley, as well as other “reggafied” classic rock tunes.

Daring Greatly

Daring Greatly is an independent, five-piece, hippy-rock family band originally from Calgary, Alberta. They’ve spent the last 2 years touring western Canada, the North-Western US and California perfecting their three-part ‘blood harmony,’ original riffs and beats. They recorded their debut album Cornerstones in 2016, recently opened for Bon Jovi at the Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena and will be opening for the Doobie Brothers for the ‘Rock The Cure Festival’ in San Diego on Aug. 20, further continuing their perpetual One Town At A Time World Tour through 2018. For more information about the family & friends band from Calgary, Ab visit www.daring-greatly.com

Floyd Meets Brown
August 4

A psychedelic funk rock band currently a four piece, this dynamic group has no shortage of big sounds! Playing with high energy and pure intent, they will captivate all types of audiences. Formed in the summer of 2013, Floyd Meets Brown is already making its mark in B.C. as a group that bends genres into a melting pot of funky grooves with psychedelic breaks that connect to you’re heart and soul. They released a 6 song EP live off the floor in March 2015 with sound engineer Mike Pedersen at Music City Studios in Kelowna B.C. to keep that live jam feel they produce on stage. Since then they have forged many new captivating tunes and will be releasing them to you one at a time throughout 2017 with the first release on March 19th titled ‘Funk You’. When they put on a live show, its just at a whole other level, a different beast. Their live sound and stage presence are unique as Floyd Meets Brown experiments with new sounds every set creating a journey tailored to each show.

Bees and the Bare Bones & Luke Wallace
September 1

Bees and the Bare Bones is a Canadian band from British Columbia, comprised of Madison Olds and Abby Wale. Maddie and Abby began individually by playing indie-folk music and joined efforts to develop an alt-country/folk sound. The band formed in July 2016 just in time to make the submission cut off for the 2016 Chevy Tailgate Contest. They made their group music debut at the Big Valley Jamboree in Camrose, Alberta. As the 2016 Chevy Tailgate winners they went to Nashville where they recorded at the Sound Emporium and connected with industry professionals like Paul McGuire, CMT, Brad Stella and Angaleena Presley.

Luke Wallace is a 24 year folk musician and activist from Vancouver, BC who has spent the last 4 years touring the coast using his music to amplify the voices of communities fighting to protect their way of life and the systems that sustain them. Luke has shared his music internationally in Paris, France at the COP21 and more recently in Costa Rica at a Young Climate Leaders conference. In 2017 Luke will be performing all over Western Canada including performances at The Vancouver Folk Music Festival and Kispiox Valley Music Festival.

Beat the Streets
6:00pm & 7:45pm

Beat The Streets are Australia’s leading entertainment company and have brought their high energy comedy and award winning break dancing and tap dancing show to corporates, weddings, festivals, colleges, sport half-time shows and special events around the world. Founder and director William Sanchez moved from New York to Australia and in 2010 created the first crew to ever combine Breakdancing, Tap Dancing and Comedy. In such a short time, he has managed to build an all inclusive entertainment company unlike anything else Australia has to offer. Beat The Streets members have performed with both Australian and International artists, Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo, Jessica Mauboy, Timomatic and Ricki Lee to name a few.

About the Show

Beat the streets provide a unique, exciting performance presenting acrobatics, dance and comedy. Their performance is a showcase of thrilling breakdancing, acrobatic flipping, rhythmic tap dancing and comedy with audience interactivity. With over 15 year experience combined, these guys are undoubtable the most sought after street performers in Australia.

West Hammock
7:00pm & 8:15pm

West Hammock released their debut EP in 2016 titled, “Wanderlost”, which was followed up by a cross-Canada tour that featured shows with the JUNO award winning band, The Strumbellas. Following the release, the band reached new levels of local success and regularly appeared on local television shows and newspapers. West Hammock has performed with artists like Joey Landreth, Adam Gontier (Three Days Grace), The Strumbellas, The Wooden Sky, Kalle Matteson, and many more. In 2017, West Hammock will release their music video for their first single, Anchors, and begin recording their debut full length album.
