The City of Penticton closed Backstreet Boulevard to through-way traffic on Thursday, Sept 20, 2018 from 7am-6pm to allow for excavation across the roadway as needed to install multiple electrical and communications conduits and concrete vaults underground. This work is being done as part of the 200 block Main Street east lane-way utility infrastructure project, which continues through November 2018.
Details and updates can be found on the City’s project web page.
Once all the conduits and pre-cast casings are installed they will be encased in specially mixed concrete (>15MPa) used for electrical systems.
It is expected that approximately 36m3 of concrete will be placed – that’s six full ready-mix trucks! Concrete is from OK Ready-mix.
